buds! hope this finds you feeling a bit of whatever this moment is looking like.
wanted to share a couple of things:
1. HYPE books are out!
here’s a link to learn more, download the digi/PDF version, or purchase a physical copy. really psyched to share and appreciate all the folks already copping these—will start shipping ‘em out this weekend!
2. a new rap video
motherfucker’s we’re good. we got the checkmark. the big purple foam checkmark to be exact. one of the tracks from my new project whale of a sale, out this Friday.
this song only took 2+ years lol.
I sent the below email in May of 2020…
a friend responded asking about the track and said they were excited to hear it. thanks to my philosophy of listening to my gut, even if it was my gut from 2 months or even 2 years ago, I’m excited to have something to share.
james altucher talks about replying to really old emails in his book choose yourself. I always dug this part. I just can’t apologize for sending an email a day or 2 later… and it’s another thing that doesn’t matter that we (I) sometimes choose to stress on.
I like to put this on creative work too. Removing unnecessary and often invisible barriers.
either way, any way, every way, every day.
SENDING LOVE!

Hey buds,
We all have this voice. The inner-hater doubting our path to being our awesome selves. Luckily it’s possible to move this sucker out of our head and into something we can identify as an outsider (and then tell it to shut the fuck up).
I’ve had some success dissing this wackness lately and wanted to share. Props due The Artists Way by Julia Cameron for being a major help on my forever practice here. Also all the dope artists, crew, and beyond who make stuff (or do amazing work, whatever it is) unapologetically - inspiring us to do the same.
I made a beat recently I’m digging and for whatever reason it got me chanting ‘Mother Fucker You Good’… a positive hype up that we all have the checkmark to do what we want. This chorus instantly stuck with me so I made a rough recording for when it was time to write a bit more on the track. The other day I dove back in and ended up with a nice little verse fitting my vision. I was feeling ultra hyped and in these situations I like to take a jog to work on sorting these ideas out in my head.
The inner-hater instantly popped up - doubting and dissing the track. What would this or that artist think if they heard the song? It doesn't sound like other songs you like. It’s weird. It’s not weird enough... I felt the negative voice trying to creep in and this time I was able to keep it on the outside, lurking a couple of feet away.
I dug deep into the vibes that created the song - recognizing them as truth. I identified the moment the inner-hater snuck in and tried to take over the vibe. And luckily, was able to tell it to shut the fuck up.
Have y'all experienced this voice of doubt lately? Have you been hyped on something in the best way and then felt this wave of skepticism? Were you able to separate it and put it in check? I hope so because your initial intention was and still is dope and I hope you go forward with it, whatever it is.
If this has come up for you lately and you overcame or didn't (it's a forever practice), I'd love to hear about it. Reply to this email if you want to share.
Peace/Love/Hype,
Nick
